Women and Girls Fund

The Women & Girls Fund creates enduring and progressive change for women and girls throughout southeastern Connecticut.

  •  We respond to the economic, health, educational, safety, cultural, and social needs of women and girls.
  • We engage women as donors to address the unique needs of women and girls through effective grant making.
  • We build a permanent endowment to provide ongoing support for organizations serving women and girls who are at risk or in need.

Since 1999, the Women & Girls Fund has invested more than $400,000 to promote self-sufficiency for women through education and job training. We have funded health and safety issues. Our grants have encouraged girls to make wise choices and to take leadership roles. In the last four years, we have focused our grants on the dual threats of teen pregnancy and domestic violence.  In 2006, this grant making focus will expand to include assisting New London women, aged 62 or older with limited incomes, and helping women enter or re-enter the workforce.

But for every person we have reached, there are many more we have not touched. The Women & Girls Fund is designed to increase impact by bringing women together and pooling their resources to more effectively address important needs of women and girls in our region.

An outpouring of support from individuals and businesses has resulted in a permanent $2 million – and growing – endowment. In addition to seeking outright gifts to the Fund, we are now encouraging women to make “women helping women” part of their legacy by joining our new Lewis Century Society. The Society recognizes donors who include the Women & Girls Fund in their wills and estate plans.

Outright or legacy gifts will ensure that women and girls have ample opportunities to create a bright and positive future for themselves, their families and their communities.

Together, we can do it
