Recommending Grants
- Annually, the foundation will inform donor advisors with endowed funds of the spendable amount available for grants. We will also provide a brief summary of all proposals being considered by the Grants Committee.
- Advisors to non-endowed donor advised funds may make grant recommendations to any 501(c)(3) public charity or government entity in the United States.
- Advisors can make grant recommendations at any time by submitting
a written request via mail, fax, email, or by contacting our office.
- Advisors wishing to remain anonymous (advisor name, fund name
or both) should indicate this with their written request.
- In accordance with IRS regulations, advised grants will not be made to benefit specific individuals.
- In accordance with IRS regulations, grant recommendations for pledges, memberships or tickets cannot be approved (with the exception of pledges to Community Foundation initiatives.)
- After receiving your recommendation Foundation staff will:
- Verify that the organization is classified as a public charity under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code
- Contact the charity, if necessary, for additional information
- Seek Board of Trustee approval.
- Send the check and grant award letter to the recipient.
- Provide the advisor(s) with verification that the grant was approved and paid
