The Community Foundation of Southeastern Connecticut

History

The Community Foundation of Southeastern Connecticut traces its history to a small group of visionary community leaders who, in 1982, organized to establish a permanent endowment to serve New London and it's ten surrounding towns in perpetuity. It was incorporated as The Pequot Foundation, with seed money of $225,000 contributed by the Shea, Palmer and Bodenwein Funds. The Foundation's first annual grant awards were awarded in 1984. Since that time, more than $13 million has been awarded to local nonprofit agencies and students, and the endowment has grown to more than $35 million through the prudent stewardship of the 160 trustees who have served on the Board. We currently boast 240 separate funds, contributed by a diverse range of donors.
